Supporting social cohesion and fighting a decisive battle against poverty through a multi-faceted Social Policy, are top priorities for the City of Athens. The effective strengthening of the weakest and the rehabilitation of citizens excluded by society are achieved by an approach characterized by respect, dignity and transparency on the one hand, and modern management methods on the other, which allow us to achieve efficient social solidarity. Citizens and residents alike, are approached holistically, with respect to the principle of non-discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability or age.
To support its social policy, the City of Athens receives donations from a major network of sponsors, and implements European programmes that reinforce existing structures for the provision of social services, and create new ones.
