The City of Athens has 6 Municipal Clinics in 6 different Municipal Districts, to ensure that primary healthcare is provided to all citizens, as near as possible to where they live and work.

City of Athens Municipal Clinics, as the first line of healthcare for all citizens (including uninsured or “undocumented” persons), provide a series of basic heath and social solidarity services, which include:

Health Services that do not require hospitalization;
An assessment of the citizen’s state of health, planning and implementation of measures for disease prevention and health promotion;
Primary dental care;
Post-hospital care and rehabilitation;
Monitoring of chronic disease sufferers;
Conditional prescription-writing;
Issuance of personal health records for schoolchildren, at Municipal Clinics;
Conditional issuance of medical certificates.

The Microbiology Laboratories provide the following laboratory testings free of charge for uninsured citizens and residents:

General blood work;
General urine analysis;
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate;
Cholesterol;
Triglycerides;
Urea;
Uric acid;
Blood sugar.

Other services include 1) free sampling for Pap smear; and 2) free, anonymous and painless HIV testing.

NEW SERVICE: Free HIV testing at: 1st Municipal Health Clinic (Kalfopoulio Healthcare Centre, 78, Solonos Street); 2nd Municipal Health Clinic (Fanosthenous & Friderikou Smith, Neos Kosmos); 3rd Municipal Health Clinic (48, Thessalonikis & Iraklidon Street, Petralona); 4th Municipal Health Clinic (Propontidos & 110, Agia Sofias Street, Kolonos); and 6th Multi-Functional Center of Kypseli (4b, Chanion Street). The test is provided in collaboration with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), using the most reliable rapid HIV testing method. The test has a 99% accuracy rate, and requires a single drop of blood taken from the finger. Testees receive their results on the sport, with professional psychological support available both before and after the test.

The rapid HIV test is provided free of charge and anonymously; no appointment is required and the testing facility is available daily: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at all Municipal Health Clinics, and 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the 1st Municipal Health Clinic.
